Research in the Johnson lab is focused broadly in evolution, ecology, population biology and systematics with a strong emphasis on conservation application. The lab is particularly interested in:

 

(1) the factors that promote the divergence of populations

 

(2) the adaptive significance of genomic diversity

 

(3) how increased population fragmentation and isolation influences evolutionary and ecological processes at both temporal and spatial scales

 

(4) identifying factors crucial to prevent both population and species extinction.

 

We use a combination of molecular and demographic data to investigate the effects of contemporary and historic population processes on population structure, diversity, and viability. Much of our research is applied and contributes directly to conservation management.
